Magic 8 Box May 2016 Swatch and Review

**Press Samples**

I know you all have been waiting to see what's in the next Magic 8 Box. Wait no more! I've got swatches of the gorgeous, May 2016, movie musicals themed, Magic 8 Box to show you all today. I'm a big musical theater buff, so when they asked me to swatch this one...well, you'll see my reactions in a moment. Don't think you need to enjoy musicals to fall in love with these beauties though.

The Magic 8 Box consists of polishes from 8 makers, all having to do with the same theme. Each box has 4 consistent makers: Philly Loves Lacquer, Smokey Mountain Lacquers, My Indie Polish, and Rica. As well as, 4 guest makers. In this month's box, the guests are: Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer, Top Shelf Lacquer, Paint Box Polish, and Seventy Seven Nail Lacquer. Get ready to fall in love with these, and prepare yourself to possibly have an ear worm or two. This post is full of fun!

**WARNING VISUAL HEAVY**

When I was told May's box was going to have the theme of movie musicals, I was pretty much like...
Well, that was me on the outside...inside, I was more like...
I have no control when it comes to musicals of any kind (with the exception of Sound of Music. I am NOT a fan.). That doesn't really matter because the musicals these ladies chose to be inspired by are fantastic! I'm still in shock that no one picked Rent or some of the fantastic classics, but their choices got their creative juices flowing. There are some incredible polishes in the May 2016 edition of the Magic 8 Box. Whether you're a fan of musicals or not, you won't be able to deny that these polishes are gorgeous!
Give Me Back My Blue Blanket!!!
Philly Loves Lacquer's contribution is Give Me Back My Blue Blanket!!!, inspired by the movie The Producers.
Give Me Back My Blue Blanket!!! is described as "a bright, cerulean blue jelly filled with blue holo micro glitter, dusted with a bit of lime green holo micro glitter and purple micro holo glitter, and some playful micro shards".
Shown is three thin coats of Give Me Back My Blue Blanket!!! with top coat.
Give Me Back My Blue Blanket!!! is fully opaque in three thin coats. Smooth application despite it being full of glitter. I adore her inspiration for this polish. It's one of my many favorite parts of this movie. If you haven't seen it...watch it! You'll laugh so much! A great, classic type of humor mixed with some modern. Just like this polish. A classic blue with some lovely holo, mixed with a bit of unconventional color to help elevate the main color as well as the flakes to add some depth with shape.

Take a Chance On Me
Smokey Mountain Lacquers' contribution is Take a Chance On Me, inspired by the movie Mamma Mia!.
Take a Chance On Me is described as "a jelly base in a captivating shade of violet filled with gold flakies mixed with iridescent flakies that shift through green".
Shown is three coats of Take a Chance On Me with top coat.
Take a Chance On Me is a beauty that demands attention. Another with a smooth application. It applies like the dream it looks like. Such an ethereal beauty. I'd love to see someone use this as the base for some nail art. As this movie was based in Greece, this polish suits her inspiration. It's bright, playful, and entrancing. I can only imagine that's what it is like there.

Mr. Candy Man

Because this would be complete without a condescending Wonka meme...

My Indie Polish's contribution is Mr. Candy Man, inspired by the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Mr. Candy Man is described as "a milky white crelly with matte dot and hex glitter in multiple sizes and colors".
Shown is two coats of Mr. Candy Man with top coat.
Mr. Candy Man is so soft and playful. A third coat is probably needed for full opacity, but I loved the amount of glitter I got with the two coats. I didn't want to over do it. I'm a sucker for a white crelly, and this one didn't disappoint. I imagine her inspiration are the candy buttons (hence why I had to put that gif in there). If that was her inspiration, this is perfect. Either way it's a beautiful polish, inspired by an absolute classic.

Cell Block Tango

Rica's contribution is Cell Block Tango, inspired by the movie Chicago.
Cell Block Tango is described as "a black jelly filled with holographic macro glitter and packed with small metallic red hex glitter".
Shown is three coats of Cell Block Tango with top coat.
Cell Block Tango is dark and mysterious; just like its inspiration. Three coats is needed for full opacity, but it just adds to the depth and beauty. It's inspiration is dark and even a little morbid, but I dare you to not sing along once it gets stuck in your head. You'll even find yourself humming it as you apply this to your nails.

Wash Away What's Past

Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's contribution is Wash Away What's Past, inspired by the movie Les Miserables.
Wash Away What's Past is described as "a taupe crelly with grey undertones, holographic sparkle, gold shimmer, and a pink flame".
Shown is two coats of Wash Away What's Past with top coat.
Wash Away What's Past is such a beautiful polish to breathe some life into such a heartbreaking scene from the movie. Les Miserables isn't a glamorous movie at all, the color couldn't be a more perfect pairing. All the extras just elevate the polish and remind us to find beauty in everything. A little secret, it's taking everything in my power not to cry right now. I sob through this movie every time I watch it. It gets you right in the feels. Trying to describe this one makes me think of the movie and I start to cry. It's so pretty, and you need it. That is all.

Top Shelf Lacquer's contribution is Absinthe, inspired by the movie Moulin Rouge.
Absinthe is described as "an emerald green jelly filled with silver and green holographic micro glitter".
Shown is three coats of Absinthe with top coat.
Absinthe is a green lovers fantasy. Crazy smooth application and a beautiful formula. You're sure to be giddy once this beauty is on your nails. I can't imagine how hard it was for Amy to nail down an exact inspiration from the movie, but she nailed the one she picked. She did the green fairy justice!

The Closest Shave You'll Ever Know

Paint Box Polish's contribution is The Closest Shave You'll Ever Know, inspired by the movie Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The Closest Shave You'll Ever Know is described as "a clear based polish packed full of silver glaxy holo micro glitter".
Shown is three coats of The Closest Shave You'll Ever Know with top coat.
The Closest Shave You'll Ever Know could quite possibly be the prettiest thing to ever give you nightmares. Well, in my case it does. I always have horrible luck with shaving my legs and it pretty much ends up looking like his barber shop. I so much look at a razor and my legs just get covered in goosebumps. But, damn it, do I love sparkly things and this movie! Nightmares or not, I love this polish! I couldn't bare to take it off. I ended up playing around with some Sharpies on top of it just testing something out. (I smell a fun post later on!) I went ahead and did thicker than normal coats because I really wanted a good full coverage, but I probably could have done my normal thin coats and still gotten opacity in 3 coats.

I Wanna Be Dirty

Seventy Seven Nail Lacquer's contribution is I Wanna Be Dirty, inspired by the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show.
I Wanna Be Dirty is described as "a ruby red polish filled with linear holo as well as red, fuchsia, and gold holo micro glitter".
Shown is two coats of I Wanna Be Dirty with top coat.
I Wanna Be Dirty is one of those polishes that transforms you. You put it on, and you get a sort of confidence that you might not have felt before. Like the first time you try a red lip. Whether or not you like the way it looks on you, for a moment, you feel really damn good don't you?! This beauty is the perfect polish to go along with this. The first thing you see in the movie are the red lips. How could she NOT do a red polish? It applied smooth like buttah...or like satin sheets maybe?
