Nouveau Geek Box Harry Potter Theme Swatch and Review

8:40 AM

**Press Samples**

After a month's hiatus, due to the main maker involved moving to a new state, the Nouveau Geek Box is back! This month's theme is Harry Potter! Much excite!! For those of you who don't know what the Nouveau Geek Box is...it is a box that has a different fandom theme each month, each with five indie brands. The brands vary each month, you'll see some repeats, but the brands aren't all the same every month. This month, the brands involved are Bohemian Polish, Ellison's Organics, Black Lace Cosmetics, Sassy Pants Polish, and Firecracker Lacquer. These ladies did a lovely job with this month's theme, and I can't wait to show them off...let's get to it!

**WARNING PICTURE HEAVY**
Each box comes with a small box of the Bertie Botts Beans. Definitely use this to have some fun with your kids, friends, or co-workers! I gave mine to my husband to take to work. My kid doesn't fall for these. haha
Seeds of Greatness
Bohemian Polish's contribution is Seeds of Greatness.
Seeds of Greatness is described as "a Slytherin green holo".
Shown is two coats of Seeds of Greatness with top coat.
Seeds of Greatness in named for a line in the Slytherin Welcome Message. This might be one of my favorite Slytherin inspired polishes. It is simple, not flashy, but immediately you see so much potential in that one bottle. Those of you who nail art...this is screaming for some fun. Beautiful formula and effortless application. Perfect as the base for something special, but opaque enough to be used in the actual art. I really hope this stamps.

Brave at Heart
Sassy Pants Polish's contribution is Brave at Heart.
Brave at Heart is described as "a scarlet red shimmer with gold holographic micro glitter, and gold flakes".
Shown is two coats of Brave at Heart with top coat.
Brave at Heart is named for a line the Sorting Hat says when placing someone into the Gryffindor House. This shade of tomato red made me super happy. It was slightly thick, but not horrible to work with. Two coats was wonderfully opaque.

Crumple-Horned Snorkack
Ellison's Organics' contribution is Crumple-Horned Snorkack.
Crumple-Horned Snorkack is described as "a glitter polish with chameleon glitter, holo stars and hex, blue/green squares, and silver lightning bolts".
Shown is one coat of Crumple-Horned Snorkack over a yet to be released matte dark blue from Ellison's Organics (yes, I'm being a tease!) with top coat.
Crumple-Horned Snorkack is named after a creature that Luna Lovegood mentions several times, yet we never see in the films. The creature may not have been in the movies, but you can find it at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter! I decided to put this one over a darker polish to show every piece of its beauty. I don't regret it one bit. I love this topper. It is definitely one that will change depending on the color you put it over. I liked that the extra glitters weren't overwhelming when actually applying. I thought it looked like a bit much in the bottle, but it definitely doesn't translate to the nail. Only thing I was disappointed about was that I didn't get any lightning bolts on my nail. It is so pretty though, I ended up not caring about it that much.

Accidental Horcrux
Firecracker Lacquer's contribution is Accidental Horcrux.
Accidental Horcrux is described as "a bright yellow crelly with a bright blue sparkle, and lightning bolts in black and holo silver".
Shown is two coats of Accidental Horcrux with top coat.
Accidental Horcrux is named after the night Harry lost his parents. I had a couple small issues with this one. The bolts would not stay suspended in the base. I had to constantly hold the bottle upside down to get them to disperse for photos. When it came time to get them out of the bottle to be put on the nail, I had to keep it turned upside down. I even fished for a couple with a toothpick. That was the easiest way. The actual polish applied beautifully and wasn't streaky. She has been made aware of my issues and has time to fix it before boxes will be shipped. So don't worry about all that.

Avada Kedavra
Black Lace Cosmetics' contribution is Avada Kedavra.
Avada Kedavra is described as "a blackened teal jelly holo".
Shown is three coats of Avada Kedavra with top coat.
Avada Kedavra is named after the killing curse. I ended up falling in love with this one. There is something about it that will draw you in instantly. The formula is flawless, and the mixture of glitter is just the icing on the cake. Three coats will be needed for full opacity, but you'll love the depth and dimension you get from it. You won't regret that third coat at all! If this was the last thing you saw before you died, you'd probably die happy. (I wore it as a full manicure and couldn't stop staring at my nails and smiling.)
