GlitterLand's Grand Opening!!!

1:31 PM

The lovely and wonderful Dahlia, of SassyNails and datyorkLOVES, got this crazy idea that she was going to open up a glitter shop. I know, such crazy talk!! Who in their right mind wants to buy glitter?!?! Oh yeah, that's right, only EVERYONE and their mother who loves anything about nails!!!

In order to get some buzz going about the glitter shop, aptly named GlitterLand, she sent some bloggers some of the glitter to see just what we could do with it.

WARNING - I have never used loose glitter before. I don't have nail art experience. I was slightly rushed and some nails got messed up and I wasn't able to fix them so please ignore those photos! :o)

First off, here are the lovlies I received in the mail yesterday!

3 lovely baggies of glitter from GlitterLand

Mocha star glitter - a lovely mocha latte color with a seafoam/teal iridescence to it in certain light. It's absolutely lovely and my favorite of the 3.

Turquoise heart glitter - to me, this is more of a seafoam green than it is a turquoise, even on the iridescent side of it. It's goregous, but it's definitely seafoam green. :o)

Hot pink star glitter - just as it says, hot pink star glitter, the camera doesn't do it justice. It also has the same seafoam/teal iridescence that the other 2 have.

So, now that you know what I got to work with, here is what I decided to do with it all.

Orly - Halley's Comet and Zoya - Shay

I grabbed Halley's Comet, but knew I didn't want to use it on all my nails. I needed something that would soften the mani up and wouldn't make it overwhelming. When that happens, we all know the first polish I grab is Shay

I used 2 coats of Halley's Comet While the 2nd coat was still wet, I gently added the star glitter. It's really not easy to work with if you've never used loose glitter before, but it's definitely worth getting used to. Because I absolute LOVE this color combo! In the above picture you, can see both the mocha color in the glitter on the pinky nail and the seafoam/teal iridescence in the glitter on the ring finger. I topped it with a generous coat of Seche Vite.

I used 2 coats of Shay. Once again, while the nail was wet, I carefully attempted to apply the glitter. As you can see, it didn't turn out perfectly at all. I did promise you all that I would show you good and bad, this is part of the bad. I promise you, I'm going to work on this so I can get better. It was fun but frustration the first time around. Topped it off with Seche Vite.

I used 2 coats of Shay and did everything I did on the previous nails. This one definitely got messed up right after adding the top coat. So not pretty, so pay NO attention to this picture. :o/

Since I had more room on my thumb nail, I opted to add the other star glitter that was in the bag. 2 coats of Halley's Comet, glitter and generous coat of Seche Vite completed this manicure.

Despite the couple issues I had, I thought this was so much fun. Definitely makes me want to work with the loose glitter more.

And because I tortured myself and did a full mani, you get to see my mistakes on both hands. :o)

These two nails always seem to turn out the best on both hands. I have no idea how. I just love this picture for some reason too.

The heart glitter turned out better on this hand.

This one messed up too. I don't think my pointer finger likes me very much right now. She's being extremely difficult right now.

Last but not least, my right thumb nail.

The mani wasn't completely awful, but it definitely could have turned out better. It was so much fun to finally try loose glitter. I definitely want to experiment more in the world of 3D nail art! Thank you, Dahlia, for opening me up to a whole new world! :o)
